AISSLab Delivers Invited Lecture and Receives Honors at Neuro Spine Congress 2026 (KSNS)

AISSLab participated in the Neuro Spine Congress 2026 (NSC 2026), held in conjunction with the 40th Annual Meeting of the Korean Spinal Neurosurgery Society (KSNS) from September 17–19, 2026, at the Seoul Dragon City in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Under the theme "Beyond Asia, Leading the World," the congress brought together leading spine specialists, neurosurgeons, and medical researchers to explore next-generation diagnostic and therapeutic paradigms.

Our lab director, Prof. Mugahed A. Al-antari, took the podium as an Invited Speaker, delivering an in-depth lecture titled:"Agentic AI in Spine Imaging: Toward Autonomous Disease Monitoring, Interpretation, and Clinical Reporting."

Lecture Summary & Research Focus

Conventional deep learning models in radiology frequently address isolated downstream tasks such as segmentation or classification leaving the wider clinical workflow fragmented and dependent on manual synthesis. Prof. Al-antari showcased AISSLab’s latest breakthrough: an end-to-end Agentic AI framework tailored for autonomous, multi-level lumbar spine MRI interpretation.

Joint Multi-View DICOM Analysis: Analyzes both sagittal and axial MRI views using state-of-the-art explainable architectures (CNNs, Vision Transformers, and lightweight hybrid models).

  • Comprehensive Lumbar Coverage (L1–L2 to L5–S1): Quantifies central canal, lateral recess, and foraminal stenosis, while simultaneously assessing disc degeneration, disc height, disc herniation, spondylolisthesis, and lumbar lordosis alignment deformities.
  • LLM Reasoning & Structured Reporting: Synthesizes extracted anatomical biomarkers through multimodal foundation models and knowledge-guided retrieval (RAG) to generate standardized, explainable radiology reports within seconds.
  • Clinical Decision Support: Demonstrates high diagnostic concordance with specialist annotations, transforming AI from a basic computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) tool into a reliable clinical assistant built to assist neurosurgeons and alleviate hospital reporting backlogs

Following the academic sessions, AISSLab members were recognized during the official ceremony on stage, marking another proud milestone for the laboratory's ongoing spine imaging research.
