AISSLab Presents Agentic AI Spine Assessment Framework at NSC 2026

AISSLab participated in the 17th Annual Academic Conference of the Korean Spinal Neurosurgery Basic Research Society (Neuro Spine Congress 2026 / NSC 2026 - 제17회 대한척추신경외과 기초연구회 정기학술대회), held on September 5, 2026, at the CHA Bio Complex Grand Hall in Pangyo, Republic of Korea.

During Session V (Free Paper / 자유연제), our lab director, Prof. Mugahed A. Al-antari, delivered an oral presentation entitled "Toward AI-Assisted Clinical Assessment of Spinal Disorders: From Medical Imaging to Clinical Decision Support". Following the presentations, the team was honored with an award during the conference awards ceremony (시상식).

Research Overview

Interpreting lumbar spine MRI requires rigorous analysis across both sagittal and axial views to assess stenosis, disc pathologies, and alignment deformities. To streamline this complex clinical process, AISSLab introduced an end-to-end Agentic AI and LLM-powered reasoning framework designed to assist spine specialists and neurosurgeons:

  • Sagittal MRI Analysis: Evaluates neural foraminal stenosis, spinal curvature, lumbar lordosis, spondylolisthesis, and vertebral deformities.
  • Axial MRI Analysis: Quantifies central canal, lateral recess, and foraminal stenosis alongside multilevel intervertebral disc segmentation and herniation evaluation across L1–L2 down to L5–S1.
  • Agentic Multi-Modal Clinical Decision Support: Leverages large language models (LLMs) and specialized vision agents to synthesize quantitative metrics and image findings into standardized, interpretable clinical diagnostic reports.
